The Nottinghamshire village of Annesley is in the Ashfield district of the city. The village owes its fame to Annesley Hall, a grade 2 listed building once owned by the Chaworth-Musters family, and to Annesley Castle. Although the village had a population significantly below 1000, it held its own race meeting, organised by the Annesley Hunt Committee, on Monday 30th March 1868. The meeting was staged at Hucknall, near Nottingham, and the principal race was the Annesley Stakes over a demanding 4 miles which went to Mr Brockton’s Nonpareil. There is no evidence of further racing in the village. |
